Fisheries Monitoring in Ocean Wind 01. Two seasonal pre-construction surveys. Twenty tows conducted in the lease area and twenty in the control area each season (160/year total). Tows conducted at three knots for 20 minutes. Trawl data will inform relative biomass (kg/tow) by species, size frequency by species, condition index (length-weight) by species, community assemblage, and gut content of a subset of species.

Clam Survey CVOW Catch Individuals |
The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) Surfclam Fisheries Monitoring Plan sought to acquire one year of pre-construction data at the CVOW site with a focus on Atlantic surfclam in an effort to establish a baseline condition and characterization of the Atlantic surfclam resource in and near the lease area. The target for each tow is 5 minutes at 2.5 knots with a goal of twenty stations in the lease area and another twenty at the control site. Thirty-eight stations were sampled in total for this survey. The dredge is a modified commercial clam dredge to better sample younger clam sizes (Munroe et al., 2023). For each tow, the total volume of clams caught, a subsample volume, and the number of individual clams caught in the subsample and their shell length were recorded. The realized tow distance was calculated from dredge sensor data that records time on bottom and time hauled back, and vessel track recordings.

Target soak time for the Chevron traps are 90 minutes and soak time for the BRUV is 60 minutes. A drifting rod and reel surveys for eight minutes at the turbine or phantom turbine location. Evaluates changes in species biomass, size frequency, and condition, and community assemblage. This dataset includes catch data for the rod and reel portion of the survey.
